The Millen House was started by architect, design-publicist and art collector, Niek Schoenmakers. Using his diverse background in the creative field Niek sees The Millen House as a showcase for intriguing objects, with a unique history and style.
” I wanted to create a different type of online gallery, one that reflects my own interior style and love for story telling. It is a place to browse, purchase and get inspiration for your own home.”
Niek started collecting at a young age. Throughout the course of his career, working with The Gagosian Gallery New York, Museum Cuypershuis, auction houses and various design publications, he has a trained eye for the rare and unusual. Over the years he has amassed a diverse collection of objects and art, which blend decades and styles, from mid-century modern, seventies brutalism to African and ancient artefacts.

Selecting from his private collection, Niek created The Millen House, an online gallery with a private viewing room in Amsterdam city centre.
“When I visit auction houses, online platforms or art fairs, some objects catch my eye. I fall in love which their material and shape, a closer look reveals the story that they hold. I can see how they would work in a contemporary interior and that excites me.”
The Millen House combines the well known and unexpected in an intimate home setting.
