In addition to being an interior designer, industrial designer and teacher, Cor Alons was a painter. He rarely or never exhibited, hence this side of his versatile artistry has remained virtually hidden. In earlier years it often happened that when he drew a flower, consciously or unconsciously it was soon tightened into a decorative form. In his design work he is repeatedly confronted with the conflict between fantasy and function but in his painting he can express himself more freely. Here he is not inhibited by the 'assignment'.

“Painting is an old childhood love; I have actually always painted and although I have become much busier in recent years due to all kinds of work, I still cannot resist. It is an irresistible urge from within.”

This rare painting shows his creativity and sense of color. The subject is a personal one: in 1927 he was one of the founders of pottery studio Duinvoet.
