Untitled - Henry Heerup
Henry Heerup
Untitled, ca. 1935
20 x 9.5 x 10 cmTerracotta with black detailsHenry Heerup was a Danish painter, graphic artist and sculptor. From 1948 untill 1951 he was part of the CoBrA movement, together with Asger Jorn, Karel Appel, Constant and Corneille. This terracotta figure is most likely a sculpture from a body of work created around 1935. A piece from this series “Mask”, 1935, from the collection of Brandts, Denmark, is currently on show at the Heerup Museum as part of their exhibition on Heerup’s and Carl Henning Petersen’s presentation at the 1962 Venice Biennale. Similarity in motif can be found in Heerup’s 1935 granite portrait of his mother, Sera, whom he frequently portrayed. This work can be seen as an independent work from which he possibly drew inspiration for the granite portrait. (Source: Heerup Museum)
