This dynamic abstract work by Dutch artist Joop Vreugdenhil exemplifies his early career style, with subtle architectural elements emerging from the composition. Born in The Hague on July 18, 1904, Vreugdenhil was a painter, draftsman, and lithographer who trained at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. After World War II, his work initially leaned towards expressionism, featuring figurative elements imbued with emotional depth. However, by the 1960s, he embraced geometric abstraction, focusing on harmonizing rectangular forms and carefully balancing dimensions, proportions, and colors to create visual equilibrium. A member of the Haagse Posthoorngroep (1956–1962) and Pulchri Studio, Vreugdenhil frequently traveled to France, where he drew inspiration for his meticulous compositions. His works are included in the Dutch National Collection, underscoring his lasting contribution to modern Dutch art.
