This artwork by Ton Pape (1916–2003), exemplifies his mastery of geometric abstraction. Created in pastel, the work features bold, layered forms in deep brown, grey and gold tones, with precise symmetry and interplay of light and shadow. The vertical composition emphasizes depth and harmony, hallmarks of Pape’s abstract style. Born in Rijswijk, Pape studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. A versatile artist, he explored both figurative and abstract styles, designing around 800 patterns for carpets and fabrics during his career. A member of Pulchri Studio, he exhibited widely, including at the Rijswijk Museum in 2002.
