Govert Heikoop (1951-2007), Floor sculpture in blue, red, yellow and pink, 1980s

1,750.00

Brightly colored floor sculpture by Dutch artist Govert Heikoop (1951-2007). Typical of the artists oeuvre, this piece exemplifies Heikoop’s use of bold colour and dramatic shape. With architectural forms and solid structure, this piece commands space, whilst Heikoop’s use of vidid primary colors add a playful element. A prime example of the Memphis era, championed by designers and artists such as Ettore Sottsass, Michele De Lucchi and Nathalie du Pasquier.

Made of painted plywood and signed and dated 1984, on the base. This sculpture was acquired directly from the artists family. In excellent vintage condition.

Heikoop was born in Meerkerk, NL, and studied at the Jan van Eyck Academy, Maastricht, in 1977. He obtained his MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA 1979. This school has famous design alumni like, Harry Bertoia, Charles & Ray Eames and Florence Knoll. At Cranbrook he developed his skills as a sculptor and starting working on larger indoor and outdoor installations. Heikoop’s work can be found in private, commercial and museum collections world wide.
