Hocker/ table Chair by Mik Bakker

Spotted during Dutch Design Week 2023, young talent Mik Bakker made a lasting impression. Hailing from Amsterdam, Mik Bakker stands out as a burgeoning newcomer in the realm of furniture design and sculpture. Raised in a vibrant, multicultural environment with dual Dutch and Peruvian citizenship, Mik’s creative journey started at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and ArtEZ. It was there that she discovered her profound fascination for the interplay of materials and shapes, culminating in her graduation from the Royal Art Academy in The Hague in 2022, with a specialization in Furniture Design.

Mik Bakker’s design philosophy is characterized by bold, functional statements that redefine spatial experiences. Her creations, endowed with a distinctive spatial aesthetic, seek to mold and reshape the way we perceive interiors. A key collaborator in Mik Bakker’s creative process is craftsman Robert Reinders. Reinders, with over three decades of expertise in woodwork, furniture, and interior design, brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, bringing these remarkable pieces to life.

At COLLECTIBLE 2024 The Millen House presents a lounge chair crafted from solid wood, rescued from the skips from Amsterdam, in a deep dark color.  This substantial piece carries a unique charm, with its weightiness and monolithic design making it a lounge chair like no other. Complemented by a separate table or stool, this ensemble represents a harmonious blend of artistry and functionality, embodying Mik Bakker’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of furniture design.
