Unique custom designed piece by Jan Cornelis Rietveld (1919-1986) for the renowned photographer Violette Cornelius. In early 1950s Cornelius met Jan Rietveld – son of Gerrit Rietveld – with whom she had a relationship from 1950 to 1956. Through him she came into contact with the magazine Forum and the architects Aldo van Eyck, Sam van Embden and Herman Haan. She developed her career into a successful architectural photographer and continued to work with these architects until the 1960s. In these years Jan Rietveld, together with his father, were responsible for the renovation of her apartment in Amsterdam.
