Ton Pape (1916-2003), large hard-edge geometric painting, 1970s

2,750.00

Born in The Hague, Dutch artist Ton Pape was a painter of exceptional orginality. His works shifts between figurative and abstract. He has a large body of work with figures or landscapes, but also a unique geometric abstract style. He studied at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, and later frequently showed his work at Pulchri Studio in both member and solo shows. In the mid-1960’s Pape gained a reputation as designer of patterns for carpets and fabrics. This interest in layering and weaving is clearly visible in this artwork.
