Abstract minimalist sculpture in aluminium

Striking sculpture by Dutch artist Barbara Barry Verkaik (1929 – 1998). In the 1970s dutch design and art became more strict and minimal with designs by Gijs Bakker and Aldo van de Nieuwelaar and art by Carel Visser. This stunning piece is exemplary of that era: straight lines, clear use of material and no decoration. Altough the concept is simple: a geometric line, bent in diagonal lines, this sculpture is a sense of movement and an almost human-like shape.
What even more striking is the fact that this sculpture is made by the little known female artist Barbara “Barry” Verkaik, a rarity in the art world especially in that time. A stunning piece for any interior. The piece is signed underneath.Excellent vintage condition, some traces of use.
