Mart de Houwer’s sculptures are notable for their bold, geometric forms. She often worked with triangular shapes, creating compositions that emphasize the intersection of planes and volumes. In this sculpture De Houwer explores a geometry reflected her interest in simplifying and abstracting the human figure, moving away from naturalistic representation towards a more universal language of form. This pieces resembles works Henry Moore, whose early works were influenced by his exposure to non-Western art, particularly African and Pre-Columbian sculpture. He embraced the principles of modernism, rejecting academic conventions in favor of abstraction and experimentation. During this period, Moore explored themes of motherhood and the human figure, producing sculptures characterized by simplified, organic forms and a sense of monumentality, a similar tread found in this work
