Mart de Houwer’s "Untitled (Wall Chain, 5 White Clay Plaques)" is a 92 x 10 x 10 cm installation from circa 1975, crafted from unglazed white clay. Five rectangular plaques, each uniquely textured with intricate linear patterns, are connected by natural twine, creating a vertical arrangement that exudes rhythm and movement. The organic tones and matte finish lend the piece an earthy, raw aesthetic, while its geometric regularity balances the handcrafted details. Signed with de Houwer’s monogram, the work recalls the minimalist aesthetics of Agnes Martin and the meditative qualities of Japanese ceramics. Offered directly from the artist’s family, this one-of-a-kind piece reflects de Houwer’s mastery of texture and form, making it a timeless addition to modern ceramic collections.
