This abstract composition by André van der Vossen (1893–1963), created around 1950-55, is a vibrant mixed-media piece showcasing the artist’s mastery of color and form. Measuring 24 x 17 cm (57 x 47 cm with its frame), the work combines dynamic black strokes with bold red, green, and blue rectangular shapes, set against subtle gray tones. The interplay of spontaneous gestural marks and structured elements reflects mid-20th-century abstract movements, blending the precision of De Stijl with the freedom of Abstract Expressionism. Signed with his monogram in pencil on the lower right, the composition captures Van der Vossen’s role in shaping Dutch modernism. This work exemplifies postwar European abstraction, radiating energy, optimism, and timeless modernity.
