This expressive still life exemplifies André van der Vossen’s mature style, defined by bold, saturated colour blocks and sculptural applications of paint. Deep blues, reds, turquoise, gold, and forest green form a dynamic arrangement of bottles and vessels, built with vigorous strokes and a richly textured surface. Executed in paint on paper, the work retains its original wooden frame, which holds multiple inscriptions on the verso — including “Niet te koop” (“not for sale”) — signaling that the piece was kept within Van der Vossen’s close circle and likely reserved for his wife. The work is signed both on the front and on the reverse, a rarity in his later production.
Condition is very good: the colours remain strong, the paper stable, and the frame shows authentic, age-appropriate wear consistent with its untouched, original presentation.
