This poster was produced on the occasion of Franz West’s exhibition Kraavik Waande at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht in 1997. Executed as a colour offset lithograph, the work reflects West’s approach to exhibition-making, in which the boundaries between artwork, display, and communication are deliberately blurred.

West (1947–2012) is known for his sculptural practice, particularly his Passstücke (Adaptives), which invite physical interaction and challenge conventional notions of autonomy in art. His posters and printed matter should be understood as an extension of this practice: rather than functioning merely as promotional material, they operate as independent works that translate his sculptural language into graphic form.

Kraavik Waande belongs to a series of exhibition posters that foreground immediacy, informality, and a certain rawness characteristic of West’s aesthetic. The composition resists polished design conventions, instead emphasizing gesture, materiality, and the provisional nature of display. In doing so, the poster reflects the artist’s broader interest in destabilising hierarchies between high and low, artwork and ephemera.

Published by the Bonnefantenmuseum, the poster exists in both standard and signed, numbered examples, situating it between mass-produced exhibition material and limited-edition graphic work.
