Set close to Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, Bovenhuis is a private residence conceived by interior design studio MOSCANDI around material, proportion and a restrained palette of deep greens and natural tones.
The Millen House was invited as curatorial partner to develop the collection of art and collectible design throughout the residence. Working in dialogue with MOSCANDI, the gallery assembled a selection spanning twentieth-century masters, rare design pieces and a younger generation of contemporary artists and makers.
Rather than following a single period or movement, the collection was built around relationships. Organic forms meet rigorous geometries; aged surfaces sit against the precision of the architecture; works carrying decades of history enter into conversation with pieces made today. The natural world remains a quiet thread throughout — present in colour, material and form rather than as a literal motif.
Each work was considered in relation to the rooms around it: its scale, position, sightlines and the objects it encounters. In this way, art and design become part of the architecture rather than additions to it.
Bovenhuis reflects The Millen House’s approach to collecting: moving freely between art and design, established names and emerging talent, to build interiors with depth, character and a sense of discovery.
All works presented in Bovenhuis are available for acquisition through The Millen House. Following a purchase, founder and curator Niek Schoenmakers can advise on placement and installation within your own interior, considering each work in relation to its architectural context.
